Playing a Second Instrument

As many of you will already know, I play a number of instruments. I'm of the school that believes that things that you learn on one instrument will help you in an effort to play another instrument. Admittedly, to gain proficiency in any particular instrument it its best that you devote most of your practice time to that instrument alone, but if you have any time left over you will benefit from looking at the musical problem from a different angle. Trying to play a different instrument will give you such an insight.

I try and pick up a different instrument once every two years or so to keep my brain music fit. The last couple of days I've been giving this concertina I bought ten years ago and put in the cupboard a hiding.

Don't be surprised if in the not too distant future I come up with some sort of act that requires me to have a parrot on my shoulder.
